  1. There is some anecdotal evidence to support the idea that Chopin’s more somber pieces were composed during depressive episodes brought on by dreary weather. Chopin was also diagnosed with tuberculosis, and he was often seized with bloody coughing fits.
    For some reason, I associate walking in the rain with his Waltz in A minor. I guess the haiku was a synthesis of this personalized association, and the fragments of biographical information I’ve learned about Chopin while listening to classical hour on public radio.
